'We Have Merged - Shamancore' - An Interview with Zutsuu=Teknoaidi by Mindgrrind

'We Have Merged - Shamancore' - An Interview with Zutsuu=Teknoaidi by Mindgrrind.

Tuomas aka Zutsuu/Teknoaidi is a Finnish hardcore techno/speedcore musician and artist. He is part of an underground music community in Finland called ‘Kovaydin.NET’ (as in Kovaydin Network or Hardcore Network in English). Though Hardcore and Speedcore tends to have an aggressive and antagonistic reputation, Tuomas brings new ideas concerning sound therapy, global consciousness and spirituality to the scene. Shamanic music can also be extreme and there is potential for ideas to infiltrate into new scenes in order to stimulate new levels of consciousness not often experienced in our standard reality frames. It provides a catalyst for new ideas and new energies to emerge. Tuomas talks about his project and his influences from the dream and spirit realms.

Club Alien Interview: Zoe Mindgrrind Settles the 'Core'

Zoe Mindgrrind Settles the 'Core' - An Interview by Miss E from Club Alien
"You should never be told what you want, what to worship or who to be, yet in our society, we have been SOLD these ideals. Do whatever makes your heart sing and sometimes it means sticking your middle finger up" Zoe Mindgrrind.

The green haired lead singer of Skat Injector is marauding around the stage with the mic, belting out a tirade of raw aural energy. The restless crowd below her reels and ricochets off each other in a nonstop, chain-reaction of movement & sound. To all appearances it is a punk gig, except for a few crucial details: the “stage” is actually the back of a sound system van at the Fuck Parade, one of Berlin’s biggest techno street parties. While the drag queen's vocals belong in a grindcore band, the beats are machine-gun gabba. Even the singer's voice, the only organic feature of the electric torrent of frustration pouring out the speakers, is a rough-edged sine wave that blends into the industrial soundscape. The float that Skat Injector are playing on was organized by the Splatterkore collective, of which Zoe Mindgrrind is one of the founding members.

‘Temple of Trance' - An Interview with cultural anthropologist Graham St John about Psytrance

‘Temple of Trance' - An Interview with cultural anthropologist Graham St John about Psytrance
Psytrance is a type of electronic dance music very generally characterized by fractal hypnotic rhythm and melodies, creative sampling and rolling basslines. A wide international culture has emerged alongside the music. The parties are often multi-sensory environments with spiritual and psychedelic art visuals, lazer shows and decorations to enhance your psychedelic drug experience and festivals transform outdoor sites into eco-conscious, pulsing, colourful alienesque discos with healing areas, fashion stalls, visionary art galleries, healthy food and healing/therapy areas. Psytrance covers a wide spectrum of subgenres to facilitate different journeys through your imagination such as Full-On, Dark, Forest, Progressive, Psydub/chill/breaks and so on.

‘Kinetic Culture - Find Your Freedom' - An Interview with Stray Wayward aka Spiral Mark

‘Kinetic Culture - Find Your Freedom' - An Interview with Stray Wayward aka Spiral Mark
It began the early 90s- the golden age of the rave. Amidst post-Thatcher government destruction and the arrival of acid-house music, a collective called Spiral Tribe exploded onto the dreary British landscape. Spiral Tribe were a huge influence on DIY culture, particularly the Free Party movement, which promotes good feelings, freedom and unity amongst participants from all walks of life, alongside the powerfully transformative electronic dance beat. Non-commercial parties and multi-riggers known as ‘teknivals’ were held in disused warehouses or out in countryside and the energy began spreading through Europe and beyond.

Stray Wayward aka Spiral Mark, visionary and initial member of the tribe, shares his account of police repression and his insight to the conflicting ideals between authorities and creative individuals.

‘Noise Is My Niche' - An Interview with C-drik Fermont

‘Noise Is My Niche' - An Interview with C-drik Fermont
C-drik Fermont is a prolific experimental music producer and manager of the record label ‘Syrphe’ specialising in experimental electronic music to noise performance to avant-garde music in Africa and Asia. He produces and indulges in the power of noise, performing to crowds all over the world on various different continents and is deeply involved and educated in this underground art form. We talked about why ‘noise’ is so appealing to him, how we can interpret noise in many ways, what makes noise a type of music or personal expression and how it has the potential to strike poetic chords within us whether it be through relentless sound assault, through nature or in art.

The Decentralised Future Community

We believe that active participation in projects is vital and the most important element in creating community bonds. These bonds are so often destroyed by cliques, popularity contests, systems and rigid guidelines that no one truly cares about. In the absence of community bonds, you have alienation or a tendency to re-enforce the template that we are all wishing to break free from. It's a bit of a learning curve because I am not that up to date on technology that makes free-flowing exchange of ideas between people living far away possible.

It has always been, from the very beginning, a plan to make Splatterkore a decentralised community, but we have had certain difficulties in doing so. For example, communication breakdowns between active members, instability or even being considered as an 'extreme' label because we don't shy away from the dark or chaotic or extreme or misanthropic themes. We feel it is a little bit more than that,
but people often pigeon-hole as an easy way to understand something.

We do not wish to exclude people who have a bit of energy to fuel the collective fire, but in order to keep the momentum of fluidity, and exploration of the cutting edge, we have been collaborating with other 'tribes' with different ideas for events and doing themed compilations. Hopefully this helps us and you, explore uncharted imaginary territories and open others to new experiences.

But what else can be done? We need to find a way of sharing and exchanging resources... get other people with new ideas heard (is there anyone out there who has a sensible and new idea they want to throw around within splatterkore?)-- how does this whole wiki/open-source thing work then? Facebook is becoming more and more rigid, vapid and isolating with data-mining thrown in, but it looks like this is where everyone gravitates because there isn't many alternatives.... ideas?

‘The Beauty of Magick - The Real Deal' - An Interview with OhMega Sir

‘The Beauty of Magick - The Real Deal' - An Interview with OhMega Sir
Magic and Magick are different things and the ‘K’ on the end is used to separate the fiction from the real deal. It is a wide misconception that Magicians are evil manipulators or pull rabbits out of top-hats. We are all, sometimes unknowingly, practitioners of this ancient art-form whenever we manifest the things we want and sometimes we don’t even realise it. Andy, a magician explains the magical process and what you can benefit from consciously practicing magick.

‘Sound of the Underground' - An Interview with Junkie Kut

‘Sound of the Underground' - An Interview with Junkie Kut
You can fill your hard-drives up with pirated music in an instant with downloading software these days. This slugs a huge financial blow to the music industry as a whole. However, when it comes to underground music communities, there is not a lot of money circulating there anyway and so they are driven to work in a different way. With a sense of determination, artists are bringing the focus back to the community. Still, finding a way to sustain themselves in a new and constantly evolving movement requires continual leaps into the unknown. Ryan, the founder of “Unrepresented Music,” whose alter-ego is Junkie Kut, a zombie cyborg on crystal meth, explains the contrasting values, challenges and compromises alternative musicians must understand to allow themselves and their communities to flourish.

‘Cheat to Compete - Government Benefits’ - Article by Mindgrrind

‘Cheat to Compete - Government Benefits’
Government benefits are often regarded as a last-resort solution for when you’re out of employment and are given money to cover your basic human needs. The present economy in the UK has resulted in a high rate of unemployment where many working people have lost their jobs and are entitled to these unemployment benefits. However, for many young creative people, particularly musicians, avoiding employment is a way of life. We’ve heard it many times, it’s an idea deeply entrenched in the collective psyche that you have to work hard to survive, particularly if you’re an artist. But their values are different from what we are expected to accept, so what goes on in the minds of these so-called ‘social parasites’; artists who balance their raison d’ĂȘtre with making ends meet all while dealing with the shit dribbling down the social ladder?

The Free Party - Article by Mindgrrind

‘It all started in the 90‘s with ecstasy’
Coming out of the metal/grindcore/punk scene and into a world where the music was of a more abstract rather than lyrical nature was a huge shift for me in terms of what I was used to. I was always drawn to art of any kind which grabbed me by the throat and forced me to pay attention and my earliest introduction into the free party movement was on the rather extreme end of the abstract dance music spectrum and I was deprogrammed in a way I had never known possible. I discovered a world where the limitations were seemingly non-existent when it came to expressing yourself, if you can use a computer to experiment with faster, more dynamic beats then why not? People of all ages and cultural backgrounds were uniting over rhythmic pounding kick-drums, sensual bass-lines and psychedelic polyrhythms. There was nothing to argue about, nothing to prove and a positive community atmosphere.
